Because of Dr. Masterson’s creation, oil tycoons have made several attempts on the life of Dr. Masterson. The Special Force of the police department has received credible information that an army of humanoids (half-man/half-machine) led by Kalon (Siu-Wong Fan) & Fiona (Yifei Tang) are set to ambush Dr. Masterson at the Convention Center.

At the Convention Center a fierce battle ensues that leaves Kidd’s wife Millie and all of the humanoids dead, except for Kalon & Fiona.

The oil tycoons then steal the secrets of time travel to send revamped 2.0 versions of Kalon & Fiona to the year 2020 to murder Dr. Masterson when he was a 12 year old kid.The government learns of the oil tycoons plans to go back in time and this is when Kidd volunteers to have radical surgery to transform himself into a bionic man with mechanical arms and legs. He then travels back to 2020 with his daughter Kiki, who will go to the same school as the young Dr. Masterson.

Kidd works as a police officer in 2020, to avoid suspicion of his background, while fellow police officer Holly (Barbie Hsu) becomes attracted to Kidd. Knowing he will go back to 2080 after his mission is complete he is unable to return Holly’s affection for him.

A fierce show down with the androids Kalon & Fiona is then set to occur …

A re-imagining of the horror icon Freddy Krueger, a serial-killer who wields a glove  with four blades  embedded in the fingers and kills people in their dreams, resulting in their real death in reality.

Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary reimagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect on another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.

If you’re looking for a summer kid’s blockbuster that you will also enjoy, this most likely isn’t it. But at only 85 minutes long, it beats the heat or the rain midday on a Tuesday when there’s nothing else to do. It will keep kids entertained, but 48 hours later I’m not even sure they’d remember much about the movie. Bonus – not a lot of merchandise to buy!

Aliens in the Attic opens as many family movies do – the kids are in varying stages of rebellion, from flunking school to sneaking out, and the parents decide that a good old-fashioned family vacation is just the right dose of medicine to get their lives back in order. They join some of their extended family at a gorgeous lake house in Maine. A predicted meteor shower crash-lands aliens who want to take over the world onto the roof, and from there the plot begins. Sort of.

The story itself is fine, but the major problem the movie runs into is that it’s like a 45 minute game of tug-o’-war where the rope never moves and nothing ever happens. No one gets ahead, there’s really only one “close call,” and it makes for a very long standoff. Ground is gained in the last 20 minutes, but it feels like it takes forever to get there. There’s just simply nothing all that “new” about it. The filmmakers don’t even rip off the good stuff from older movies.

The movie takes on the attitude that kids are awesome! And can fix big problems! And we don’t need the parents! This is a pretty common theme as of late. Between this and using CGI as much as possible, whether it makes sense or not, the movie fits in well with the current fad-films which include Hotel for Dogs, Monsters vs. Aliens, and I’m sure the upcoming Shorts. The kids have to save the oblivious parents because only they know how, which is another common theme. With very clear good vs. bad characters, it makes the movie extremely easy to follow and understand; a plus for the younger crowd.

Adults will find it pretty boring, though. There’s enough slap-stick humor to keep kids entertained, but the dialogue is pretty poor and the CGI is worse with the exception of an anti-gravity scene. A few of the actors do deliver notable performances, including Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2 the Streets), Doris Roberts (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) and Tim Meadows (Mean Girls and “SNL”).  The child actors all take on the Disney approach to acting, which … isn’t exactly a compliment. It’s not overly engaging but it is certainly over the top. Hoffman is definitely the actor to pay attention to in the movie. Though he doesn’t have many credits to his name yet, he has a great natural talent for beating himself up and physical humor.

There is virtually no foul language except for one or two ‘shut up’s. Actually in the beginning Ashley Tisdale’s character starts to say “I’m going to kill you” to her brother, but it is conveniently covered by a car horn which I thought was clever and happens a few more times. There is only one steamy kiss (on a TV), but other than that the characters keep getting interrupted just as they are about to lock lips. Violence level is moderately high, and I say that mostly because a lot of guns are pointed at people, from bubble to paint ball to mind-control rays. Characters are shot, but none are wounded. As I said, there is plenty of slapstick comedy to go around, but except for the occasional crotch shot it’s pretty mild.

I have certainly seen worse movies. There were a couple memorable moments, but for the most part we’ve all seen this movie at least twice before in varying forms. While it’s really the only slightly promising kids’ release this week, I think it’d be worth waiting for Shorts on August 7. So unless you’ve really just run out of things to do, I’d skip this one. Or make someone else take the kids.

To add to that, the film is presented in 3D, something which gives an edge to this animation flick that keeps viewers of all age groups happy.

“Ice Age 3″ entertains, and how! The scenes are even more lovable this time around, one liner has that punchy humor to them and characters are much more identifiable. Even for those who may have missed the earlier installments of “Ice Age”, it’s a no pain situation. This is because the writers draw up their character sketches well and present them all over again without making audiences restless.

So we have the members of the ‘mammals’ gang, the mammoth couple, getting ready for the delivery of their first baby. They have their friendly tiger for company who gets into a little depressions that he is ‘losing his edge’ and may lose his friends once they move on to parenthood.

It’s a different matter though that he gets into form once he heads out with his friends to search for Sid, who has been transported to Dino-land, courtesy his sudden love for parenthood that has made him look after three baby dinosaurs.

The fun only continues with the arrival of Buck who is their guide, guru and philosopher, all rolled into one. He has a sole ‘Dino tooth’ as a weapon that he earned as a savior, courtesy his near death experience in a fierce battle with a dinosaur a few years back.
Fun and action move at a great pace and are enhanced with some cool 3D animation that brings in a unique movie-watching experience. Volcanoes erupt, rock slides happen, dinosaurs strike, bridges collapse, trolleys snap and laughing gas makes them all uncontrollable even as Buck entertains them all through his high-on-action flashback.
In this almost perfectly packaged entertainer, what lets the film down a little is an extended end. Just when you thought that the film was over, “Ice Age” goes on to continue for some more time.

This is done in an attempt to ensure that the story of each and every character comes to a logical conclusion. However, it becomes a little boring and unnecessary.

Leaving aside this minor blemish, there is something else worth pondering over. Ten minutes into the film and you end up telling yourself that all said and done, Indian animation has a long way to go before it matches up to its Hollywood counterparts.
The problem is not just with the quality of animation but also the fact that we have seldom come up with a storyline that is imaginative, expressive and entertaining enough to cater to all segments of audiences.
Yes, we do have an occasional “Hanuman” but ever since then, we have only come up with countless rehashes of mythological tales like “Bal Ganesha” and “Dashavatar”. Also, when we have tried combining animation with live action like in “My Friend Ganesha” and “Maruti Mera Dosst”, the results have been clearly sub-par.

No wonder, audiences continue to love the likes of “Shrek”, “Ice Age” and many more and the trend will continue until we get the storyline right. Till then, we would love to go back to the sequel, which is pretty much on the cards as clearly indicated in the way “Ice Age 3″ ends.
